Specialized Treatment Programs
Recovery is not one-size-fits-all. River Oaks offers specialized treatment tracks for populations with unique needs:
- Veterans: Salute to Recovery. River Oaks is PsychArmor certified as a Veteran Ready organization. The veterans program provides trauma-informed care, peer support from fellow service members, and coordination with VA Community Care benefits and TRICARE insurance.
- First Responders. Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs face high rates of occupational trauma. This confidential program offers peer-supported treatment tailored to the specific stressors and cultural considerations of first responder communities.
- LGBTQ+. River Oaks is a member of the Tampa Bay LGBT Chamber. The LGBTQ+ program provides affirming care in a supportive environment where patients can explore identity alongside recovery, with clinicians trained in the specific challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals.
- Impaired Professionals. Healthcare workers, attorneys, pilots, and other licensed professionals face unique career and legal consequences from substance use disorders. This confidential program coordinates with professional monitoring programs to protect careers while supporting recovery.
- Mental Health Program. River Oaks offers a standalone inpatient mental health program for patients with significant psychiatric symptoms independent of substance use. This program treats depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and other conditions.
Evidence-Based Therapies We Use
River Oaks uses therapies that have been validated by clinical research and recommended by organizations like NIDA, SAMHSA, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM):
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): Identifies and changes negative thought patterns and behaviors that drive substance use.
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): Builds emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal skills.
- Motivational interviewing (MI): Strengthens a patient’s own motivation for change.
- Family therapy: Addresses family dynamics, communication, and the impact of addiction on loved ones.
- Group therapy: Builds community, shared accountability, and peer support among patients in recovery.
- Trauma-informed care: Recognizes and addresses the role of trauma in addiction.
- Medication-assisted treatment (MAT): FDA-approved medications (buprenorphine, naltrexone) combined with behavioral therapy for opioid and alcohol use disorders.
- 12-Step facilitation: On-site AA and NA meetings integrated into the treatment schedule.
- Experiential therapies: Art, music, fitness, and recreational activities that support emotional healing.
