Telehealth Addiction Recovery Support

To address the growing need for alternative routes to care, River Oaks Treatment Center is proud to provide telehealth addiction treatment services, including a virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP). Sessions are held online Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 5 p.m.–8 p.m.

These services make it easier for people to access the same high-quality range of treatment options from our Tampa Bay addiction treatment center, while maintaining health and safety.

What Is Telehealth Addiction Treatment?

Telehealth services enable you to receive care from healthcare professionals like doctors and therapists via computer or phone — all from the comfort of your home. For individuals who are struggling with addiction, access to telehealth addiction treatment can be key to sustained sobriety and recovery.

Our telehealth services are led by some of the same addiction care experts that provide therapy and medical expertise in our Tampa metro area inpatient rehab program. This means you’ll be receiving the same evidence-based effective treatment that our in-person patients benefit from, including:

  • Group therapy.
  • Family therapy sessions.
  • One-on-one counseling.
  • Telehealth for rehab aftercare.

Why Choose Telehealth Addiction Treatment?

Telehealth rehab services can provide many advantages for individuals seeking greater convenience in addiction treatment. There are many barriers that can stand in the way when someone decides to seek treatment for substance use struggles, and telehealth programs like our virtual addiction treatment offerings aim to widen access to care.

Benefits of telehealth addiction treatment include:

  • Reduced travel time and transportation expenses: Not having to travel to a physical treatment location saves individuals the time and money that would be spent commuting there. For individuals with busy schedules, this can be especially beneficial.
  • Flexibility of location: Individuals can participate in addiction treatment from the comfort of their home or another quiet, private space. This can benefit individuals who are juggling childcare and caregiving duties with receiving addiction care.
  • Enhanced privacy: By participating in treatment from home, individuals may have more privacy and discretion than in in-person treatment options.

At River Oaks, we understand how challenging it can be to access the care you need when juggling other responsibilities such as work, school, and family obligations. Our telehealth treatment options are designed to enhance access to treatment and bring quality care directly to you.

Is Telehealth Rehab Right for Me?

Telehealth addiction treatment provides greater access to care, delivering crucial support to individuals on a more flexible basis than other types of treatment. However, in order for this type of treatment to be more successful, there are certain things to keep in mind. A person seeking to participate in online addiction treatment should:

  • Have reliable access to internet services and the technology needed to participate in programming
  • Have consistent access to a quiet space from which they can participate in treatment
  • Be able to commit to the designated treatment schedule
  • Have completed a higher level of care or have a less severe addiction

Telehealth rehab is a more flexible option than other addiction treatment services, but, as all treatment programs do, it requires commitment and dedication to truly benefit from the program.

How Does Virtual Addiction Treatment Fit into the Continuum of Care?

Online addiction treatment at River Oaks is offered at the intensive outpatient program (IOP) level of care. This program involves 9 hours of online sessions each week spread out over three days.

In the continuum of care, an IOP is considered a step down from a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which meets most days of the week for a more rigorous treatment schedule. An IOP is considered a step up from standard outpatient care, which is the least intensive treatment option available.

In this way, an IOP serves as a crucial bridge between highly structured support and the more flexible, continuing care model of standard outpatient treatment. A virtual IOP takes this one step further, helping patients integrate treatment even more into their daily lives by bringing treatment sessions directly to them. Patients are able to work on developing crucial recovery skills in their treatment sessions and then immediately have the chance to put them into practice in their daily lives.

Is Online Addiction Treatment Covered by Insurance?

Online addiction treatment may be covered by insurance. The level of coverage offered will depend on your insurance provider and your specific policy, so it is recommended to review the details of your policy with your insurance provider to better understand what is covered and what you may have to pay out of pocket.

River Oaks Treatment Center in Tampa works with many major insurance providers. Our team can provide more information about insurance coverage; please reach out to us at to learn more.
