River Oaks Hosts New Medical Fellowship
While the world is currently gripped by the Covid-19 pandemic, the opioid epidemic is still raging. As Americans struggle to contain opioid overdose and addiction, River Oaks Treatment Center is now hosting a new medical fellowship for two clinicians to get firsthand experience in the addiction treatment industry.
The new addiction medicine fellowship at River Oaks is sponsored by the HCA Healthcare/USF Morsani College of Medicine GME Programs. It is possible through the collaboration of Brandon Regional Hospital. Dr. Abbas Sina of Brandon Regional Hospital and Dr. Michael Murphy of River Oaks will function as faculty leaders for the fellowship program.
Addiction Medicine Fellowship at River Oaks
River Oaks is no stranger to providing medical professionals with additional education about addiction treatment. Our facility regularly provides internships to nurses looking to expand their knowledge of the addiction treatment field. This new medical scholarship represents River Oaks’ most ambitious medical education program to date.
The two medical fellows will partake in a number of clinical rotations as Brandon Regional Hospital and River Oaks Treatment Center. During these rotations, the participants will receive a full and intimate view of the addiction treatment process. Starting from inpatient detox and continuing on to inpatient treatment and eventually aftercare, the program will help grant the medical fellows firsthand experience in the treatment of addiction.
CEO of River Oaks Treatment Center Jeff Turiczek praised the new fellowship. “It’s a great privilege to work with institutes such as Brandon Regional Hospital and HCA healthcare West Florida/USF Morsani College of Medicine GME Programs to help produce future board certified addicitonologists,” he wrote, adding that the facility hoped to “expand upon these types of opportunities.”
