“People do recover; you just have to believe in yourself and want it bad enough to do it.”
Since 2016, Dr. Abbas Sina, MD, FASAM, DABAM, has treated those struggling with addiction in the Tampa area and beyond as the associate medical director of River Oaks Treatment Center. Dr. Sina also teaches future specialists in the field as the Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program Director. Prior to joining the River Oaks family, Sina spent nearly 30 years of his career as an ER doctor specializing in internal medicine.
In 2012, Dr. Sina’s career path shifted as he immersed himself in the field of addiction medicine. Having struggled with his own issues with addiction for decades, he was inspired by his own personal experience (and the fellow physicians who helped him regain control of his life) to work to help others who are struggling. As of February 11, 2018, Dr. Sina celebrated 7 years in recovery and remains an active participant in 12-step programs. His experience allows him to better understand his patients and their struggles with addiction on a more intimate level.
