River Oaks Staff Earn Board Certifications in Addiction Medicine
River Oaks Treatment Center recently announced that two of its key staff members passed their medical board examinations in addiction medicine. Dr. Keivan Hosseinnejad and Dr. Michael Murphy earned their specialty certification in addiction medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM), which administers the exams and sets industry-wide standards in physician education.
This latest achievement enhances River Oaks’ reputation as one of the region’s premiere treatment centers, with a total of four board-certified addiction medicine specialists (or “addictionologists”) on staff.
Addiction medicine was first recognized as a multi-specialty subspecialty in 2015 to assure the American public that “addiction medicine physicians have the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and treat addiction.”
To apply for an ABPM certification in addiction medicine, doctors must have a:
- A valid license to practice medicine in the United States.
- A medical degree from a U.S. or other university with the appropriate accreditations and requirements.
- An existing primary specialty certification.
